After a successful career in advertising spanning over 10 years, directing many TV commercials around the world, Brian’s first short film ‘About a Girl’ written by Julie Rutterford, premiered and won joint first prize at the Edinburgh International film festival in 2001. The film went on to win a six other International awards including Raindance, The London International Film festival and culminated with the BAFTA for best short film in the same year.

Brian then went onto direct several award winning pieces for television including ‘Pleasureland’ for Channel 4, Elizabeth Gaskell’s ‘North & South’ and ‘Ruby in the Smoke’ for the BBC and more recently the Dickens adaptation ‘The Old Curiosity Shop’ for ITV.

He won his second BAFTA in 2005 as Best Director for the modern BBC Shakespeare adaptation of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ which was also nominated as Best Single Drama.

‘A Boy Called Dad’ sees Brian reunited with Julie Rutterford for his debut feature film. Brian is represented by Michael McCoy at Independent.
